Fake 'electricity bill due tonight' messages are back before the festival week

The message claims the connection will be cut at 9 pm tonight and gives a mobile number to call. The person who answers is polite, asks you to install a payment app, and walks you through a screen share.

The screen share is the whole fraud. Once AnyDesk or a similar app is running, everything on your screen including the OTP is visible to them. No electricity board disconnects supply through an SMS with a personal number.

My father nearly fell for it. Pay only through the board's own app or the counter, and check the bill number against the last paper bill.

New version of the trading group fraud, now using a fake SEBI registration number

The group posts a SEBI registration number in the description and tells members to verify it. The number belongs to a real registered advisor, but the group has no connection to that firm. Two people I know checked the number, saw it was genuine, and transferred money.

Important post. A registration number being real does not mean the group holds it. On the SEBI intermediary list, check the registered entity's own contact details and call them directly to confirm the group belongs to them. Most say it does not.

The same group in my city also shared a fake screenshot of a NSE certificate. The logo was stretched and the fonts did not match.

One more sign: they insist on an app installed from a link rather than the Play Store. No registered broker does that.
